March News!

Hi everyone,
It’s been a while since we last sent you an update; November already feels like ages ago. We haven’t been sitting still since, working towards a bunch of releases. But first, let’s address the elephant in the room:
No NAB
Usually around this time of the year, we’re ready to go to Las Vegas for the annual NAB Show. This year, it being our 10th anniversary, we planned some really cool stuff.
But it’s not to be - after seeing events unfold this last year, and having two of our team members who live in Minneapolis right in the thick of it, we realized we couldn’t guarantee our EU team’s safety traveling to the US. While the risk is tiny, it’s not worth taking when it directly affects families back home.
So, no NAB this year. Let’s instead meet in Amsterdam in September at IBC, and hope for better times ✌️
On to the fun bits, as it’s currently raining 26.1 releases 🙂
CinemaDNG & ALEs
Almost all Blackmagic users have moved over to BRAW, but for those with legacy archives (or cameras), we’ve added CinemaDNG support to FoolCat. On top of that, we’ve brought RED’s new R3D NE codec for Nikon cameras to both apps, plus support for a slew of new BMD cameras, including their Immersive camera for Apple’s Vision Pro platform.
Recall last year’s support for DNxHR and Op-atom? Well, we had one more bit to do to make that workflow bulletproof: ALE support. Avid editors, you can now automatically have EditReady create an ALE for each batch of transcodes to automatically carry over your metadata into Media Composer. Done transcoding? On to the edit 🙂
For Avid editors, we’ve added a lot of workflow improvements around Workspaces, Mimiq’s seminal feature that allows you to use whatever type of storage in Media Composer. With the number of Workspaces people tend to create, a bit of management comes in handy. After building Managed Workspaces, in December, we released the second part of this journey:
📄 Search, Filter, and Discover
As all good things come in threes, before Summer, we’ll release the third part: Workspace Groups. This feature will allow you to create whole sets of Workspaces and easily distribute them to all users on your team.
On the PostLab side of the editorial coin, we have done quite some work too:
Canister
With Canister as the preferred software among all four major LTO brands, we’re seeing quite an influx of automation requests. The first result of that is Canister for Windows’ new Migrate feature:
We also just released a brand-new API for Canister for Windows, with its Mac counterpart coming soon. That will be the foundation for a slew of automation tools and integrations with our own apps and third-party solutions across the space.
OffShoot
Last but not least, our flagship app. With over 50K people regularly using OffShoot, we get ample feedback about what you need next - Reports. We’ve been busy building our next feature in public; with Beta 3 released just two weeks ago, we’re ramping up for the official launch in a few weeks.
On top of Reports, we’re also bringing in-app firmware updates for your OWC media to OffShoot before Summer, and some more 🙂
Until next time!
